One of the North Wests’ most acclaimed restaurants, Upstairs At The Grill is an independent, Manhattan style steak house in the heart of Chester’s historic quarter.
Housed in the 18th century former customs house in Chester’s famous ‘Rows’, the restaurant has recently undergone a major refurbishment, with the addition of a new outside covered terrace area, a reimagined bar and new dining area.
Working directly with the restaurant owners, we installed a bespoke background music system and a series of TV screens in keeping with the high-end, luxury vibe of the venue.

Project Scope
This was a challenging project in terms of protecting the historic features of the building, whilst installing state-of-the-art kit and maintaining a high-end look aesthetically.
The Sound System
It was critical to ensure that the new speaker system was ‘hidden’ from guests and blended seamlessly with the new interior design scheme. Our team installed hidden ‘in-celling’ speakers and ensured that there was no visible wiring or controls.
By working closely with the design team, we were able to deliver a fully integrated ‘hidden’ system and we even sprayed the speakers in the same paint effect as the new ceilings to ensure a seamless result.
The Screens
The venue is regularly booked for private events and is particularly popular with the horse racing fraternity. It’s also a prime location for high-end private events such as birthday and anniversary celebrations, so integrating a quality screen into the new restaurant and terrace design was critical.
